“The whole thing that got me here was controversy,” admits Hopsin. In 2010, The Panorama City, California native’s back was against the wall. He was unhappily signed to Eazy-E’s former label with a debut (Gazing At The Moonlight) failing to meet his artistic and commercial expectations after years of acting on a major network and a feature film. Hardly a “kiddie rapper,” the emcee took to the Internet and released, “Sag My Pants,” an instant rewind. “I lashed out against Ruthless Records. I knew that would have some shock value. But at the time, I had to do whatever I could do.” Hopsin’s survival mechanisms have guided him through life. As a youth placed in Special Education classes, Hop overcame the obstacles to become a video editor, music producer in addition to rapper. He is also co-founder of the low profile indie-powerhouse Funk Volume, currently with 100,000 YouTube subscribers and 145,000 Facebook Likes. This 2012 XXL Freshman is at the top of his class.
In an era defined by cosigns and flashiness, Hopsin and his Funk Volume cohorts took to the rapper’s basement. Raised on the music of Eminem and 50 Cent, Hop studied how to engage fans, both with sharp lyricism and careful branding. Also having a passion for video production, Hop succeeded in going viral without big budgets. “I want people to know it’s a Hopsin video. A lot of things matter: Colors, cuts, wardrobe, and acting. Some rappers come out and look so fake instantly. You just gotta learn how to make yourself into something that there’s not a lot of things about you that people can knock.” On his self-released sophomore album, Raw, Hopsin embodied a confidence in the vein of Hip Hop legends. “I realized we had something. I made $4,000 in one day off that album. It’s still a lot to me today, but back then, I was living off just a few dollars a week.” Following, Hop was performing for hundreds nightly on the I Am Raw Tour. The mastermind recalls, “I knew things were taking off a lot bigger and faster than we expected.”
In the three years since Raw, Hopsin has steadily supplied his thousands of album-buying fans with free music, notably his “Ill Mind Of Hopsin” series. The artist is still fearless in maintaining the spirit of lunchroom battles with SwizZz years ago; “I don’t care to burn a bridge if I didn’t want to cross it anyway.” In the meantime, he appeared on Tech N9ne’s video single “Am I A Psycho?” as well as a Top 3 album by Insane Clown Posse, The Mighty Death Pop. “The key thing is I don’t hang around bullshit artists who convince me to make bullshit songs. I just hang in my basement with the same people I’ve always hanged with. I’m the same guy; I haven’t changed.”
With cover stories and a plethora of seven-figure YouTube content, the self-made talent is sticking to his formula on his third LP, Knock Madness. “It’s gonna be hard to top—I’m calling it right now,” he boasts, claiming it’s just “an enhancement” of his work. Moreover, he wants to punctuate his career. “This will probably be my last album for a long time.” Elaborating, the recluse promises “the biggest tour I’ve ever done, and I’m leavin’ for a while” as devotes his attention to Funk Volume.
While controversy may have made Hopsin a star, skill and courage made him a fan favorite. Whether making art in his basement, crowd-surfing or skiing Down Under, Hopsin has the attitude and charisma that makes Hip Hop unpredictable again.

I know it seems right to push your music on an established mc, but honestly FV fans do not want to see that shit all over this website. We come here for info and music videos etc involving OUR favorite artist. Not to scroll through thousands of post on how everyone else is such a badass mc that can “smash the game” reality check if you were such a badass you would have made some steps into the industries door by now. Also I know tons of talented artist that have never made it or got discouraged because it is hard. Trying to ride on the coat tails of someone famous will not work unless your Courtney love. So if you still think you have what it takes put some time into it and go old school with promotion get outside and get your name in your cities mouth. Start local before global. Don’t sit in front of the computer posting the same shit on every artist you can think of pages. Then lean back and think you accomplished something by typing for hours. No fame is not handed to anyone except lil Romeo. Plus FV gives you wanna b mcs a chance every year DFUOB, enter that and they will listen you probably won’t win because of flawless, but it does get you noticed. Also guerrilla marketing DOES work make stickers, posters whatever and if your too lazy, outsource to your local graffiti writer and if they like you will have no problem helping you get your name out. All things that are worth it take time and a huge commitment. I didn’t mean to start off negative but I am tired of seeing the same type of post on a page I come to to support an mc I like. Put in the work yourself and at the end you will feel better that you don’t owe anyone for your success. Just my two cents

        • G-Dog October 29, 2013 at 11:05 am #

it’s the illest mc to ever walk on the planet. when they look into Hop’s eyes, wack rappers get manic and they panic and spit at him with no practice then he takes their lyrics and smashes them. so its safe to say when Hopsin’s about to explode, it looks like a meth lab, YEEEP!!

      • Luke Fitzpatrick November 16, 2013 at 7:42 am #

If you look at the knock madness cover’s you will see its a subliminal message. The front is Hopsin being tied up and buried alive while the back is Marcus is holding a shovel. What it shows is Marcus is retiring Hopsin for now, this does not mean he’s completely done with Hopsin just shelving him for a while that’s why he’s still alive so Marcus can dig him back up if he needs him but for now Marcus is done with Hopsin until further notice

        • Joshua Hewitt December 19, 2013 at 12:02 am #

Hopsin, you have given me much inspiration music, life, and relationship wise, thanks you did great you had a great run…but your not done yet.
Love ya Hop, and maybe when you come back you’ll hear the Name Trig Crazy in the underground. See you later man.

        • Zac Flowsyk February 13, 2014 at 10:17 am #

yeah and its also saying, not just that he’s not making music anymore for a while, but also in one of the new songs (sorry i havnt memorized the tracklist lol, i think its Caught In The Rain) “Its time to put my alter ego aside” and i saw a recent interview about how he wants to show the raw him. Not to say thats hes not always been raw as it gets, but now youre no longer hearing the emotions of hopsin, youre now hearing the emotions of marcus. Lol, does that make sense?

      • Colman January 18, 2014 at 5:01 pm #

I think hop and the rest of fv are just getting started and they really are fixing hip hop , one of the greatest mc’s like hop don’t just stop like that

      • Hop Is The Only True Rap April 5, 2014 at 7:16 pm #

Hop do what you gotta do, even if you don’t make another album. I do think I speak for all of us when I say we don’t want to see you leave, but whatever your decision is remember you’ve made an impact on all our lives and you truly are the definition of RAW.

        -A True Fan

    • Nico September 12, 2013 at 9:51 pm #

There is hardly an rap I appreciate – probably because most of my exposure to it is the trash over-played on the radio.

It didn’t take long listening to your music before I was baffled at how much I loved it!

      Keep producing!

      • J Benton June 4, 2014 at 5:26 am #

I second that man… I would give anything for a US tour that stopped by TN. Either way, enjoy Iceland Hop… don’t forget to do the hot springs if you start feeling like your balls are gonna freeze off.

    • Daniel January 13, 2014 at 7:22 am #

      • Tim July 3, 2014 at 5:07 am #

You obviously don’t listen to Hopsin, one of his famous inspirational lines was “You wanna succeed, you have to try, or one day you’ll get older and regret it all cause you can’t provide.”

        Shut up.

    • Truth February 3, 2014 at 9:20 am #

    • Monkis March 16, 2014 at 9:08 pm #

I wish you could have come to buffalo NY but Toronto is only an hour away so I’m making the trip May 16th…….

      • Chris W June 16, 2014 at 2:02 pm #

I missed the Toronto show, but I totally agree. It would be most dope if Hop came thru Buffalo, especially with the renovations they just did to the waterfront and the Harbor Center now is a better time than ever before to get some real concerts. it would be sweet to see some real rap in this city.

    • Phil March 27, 2014 at 10:35 pm #

I just disovered Hopsin. The Knock Madness album is on par with Marshall Mathers LP2. I love real rap artists. “Old Friend” is true to my heart. Panorama City? Shoots, bro. My brother is over there in a board in care facility, after several stints in prison. He used to be a Nuclear Techinican on a submarine for the US Navy. Meth fucked up his bipolar disorder and fried his brain. I hope to share this album with him next time I visit. I hope you don’t lose your faith in God – I just found him again after many years of asking him “why is my life shit?” Now, I truck through every day, with the help of Em and Hop. I’m blowin’ up and I see so many signs every day, that I can’t help but believe that the last seven years of pain were for my own good. I’m blessed now. Thank you for the real tunes and the great lyrics.

I know yall been grinding and doin yall thing and as an artist myself, i truly have the upmost respect for yall movement. i dont like most rappers either because of their message or the fact that they sold their soul to get where they are. But regardless of all that, i really want someone from funk volume to take 4 minutes out of their day and listen to a song that ive made. Im as original as i can possibly be and am more than well rounded. Im 18 and have been recording for only a year and a half but i promise im GIFTED not talented. i do all my own music, write, record, engineer, etc. This is just ONE of many songs i have made and will be making. Its only about 4 minutes long, id appreciate it if someone could listen, preferably Hopsin or Dizzy. Thank yall! I wish yall the best! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=858wILllKyI&src_vid=lUi1Ny_hwQ8&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_2161988443

Artistic, intelligent, and you speak the truth. Ill Mind 5 is amazing social commentary on such a large part of the youth generation. I’m a fan of many of your songs, but I’ve shown many friends who “don’t like rap music” Ill Mind 5 and we all agree that you hit the nail on the head. I saw Funk Volume perform in Baton Rouge, LA last year and you guys killed it. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Yo Hopsin just wanted to say that you and Funk Volume got me through some hard times man. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2010 at the age of 19 and my last chemo was Feb 26, 2013 at the age of 22. I’ve been cancer free for 3 years and almost 7 months but only been a survivor for almost 7 months. Besides Wu-Tang Clan and 2Pac I listened to you and Funk Volume from 2010-2013 heavy all the shit you guys were puttin out man, along with the Wu and Pac y’all literally played a part in saving my life. Without music I woulda gave up but music made me keep my head up and now I’m a survivor and I blast Funk Volumes music nonstop and 2013 you guys are TAKING OVER the whole game in my eyes. Keep it up. I can’t even name a favorite between You, SwizZz, Dizzy, and Jarren. I got mad love and respect for ya all and always will. Keep it one hunnad but I know y’all will. I’m from Denver, Colorado but living in a shithole state right now so I won’t be able to catch any of y’alls shows for a while cause I can’t drive still cause I’m on narcotics for chronic pain still (3 years of chemo therapy done fucked me up) but just know that every day I’m in physical therapy I have a playlist on my iPhone called Funk Volume and that’s the playlist I listen to EVERY day at physical therapy. I got music from you all and you are my inspiration to get up and do physical therapy 3-4 days a week for 1.5-2 hours at a time. You all are a huge inspiration to me. One love my dude. Keep the hot music rollin #FunkVolume2013 #KnockMadness #FuckTheHaters #KeepitMovin #RAW #MOTIVATION.

I just mainly wanted to let you all know that you played a part in saving a young dudes life. I may be white but I’ve been a hip-hop junkie since I was a little ass kid and I’m glad there’s some new school music (Mainly Funk Volume) that I can listen to, love my 90s hip-hop but I need somethin new too ya know! You guys are the illest and the truth I look up to y’all a lot. Sorry if I sound like I’m dick ridin but I’m speakin from the heart, real recognize real. One love.

I bet he could get a collab going with you three. think about it, illest collab of the 2000′s? anyways, I was bummed I didn’t get a chance to see you when you came to Minneapolis last year! I almost tried to buy tickets for October 14th at Cabooze until I noticed it said 2012 lol. I see Dizzy coming around here this year, but you should at least come somewhere around the mid-west before you go to Australia so my buddies and I can come see! (Tired of all these whack asses coming around here, mad enough to throw elbows!) no dick riding, just recognizing real rap. fuck swag rappers, that ain’t hip-hop. Bottomline: Come to MN if you get the chance. One love.

Your message has initiated a reflection that is challenging my entire approach to writing. Thank you for that. I’m proud to share birthdays with a prodigy.

    Dear Hopsin,
I am your number one fan. I hate to see a smart artist go to waste. Please Hopsin come back. The world needs you! Get back on Fl studio and starting dropping them fruity loops like the old days. I own all of your albums. All of your albums are dope. My personal favorite song is “Super Duper Fly” off your album gazing at the moon light. Much Love From Jesup,GA ! Your number one fan!

  129. Aaron October 21, 2013 at 1:34 pm #

Hopsin, I’ll keep it short and simple. If you leave the game after knock madness, the world isn’t going to have very many true artists left. The world wont have a grip on what actual talent sounds like. I encourage you to take time to yourself, but at least drop some singles here and there. You are the best artist of this day and age.

  130. RJ October 21, 2013 at 3:09 pm #

I thought hip hop was dead until i was introduced to your music. You have restored my faith in hip hop. Keep doing what your doing. Different is the way to go, and that’s exactly what your doing man. Major props. I am praying that you make it big and show the world what true hip hop is. Best of luck buddy, change the world.

  147. Shayla Kuno October 31, 2013 at 10:00 pm #

Despite your battles of becoming viral and how hard the industry is with all the fake nonsense that is produced nowadays you were resilient and persistent and all the hard work is paying off! That just goes to prove that no matter who you are, if you are good at something you love doing then never give up! You’re an inspiration to all, a lyrical genius at that! Your music is real and speaks the truth! Spreading your music down underrrrrr! And keen to see you live at the Espy in Melbourne! And after your tour is over don’t stop making music! That would be bad for us all! Much love for Funk Volume! <3

  148. Woytas (Poland) November 2, 2013 at 10:47 am #

Yo Hop any chance of visiting Poland? You probably think Poland is not worth visiting but You’d be surprised how many fans You have here. There are lots of people who dig every word You write. I know there was supposed to be one concert in Kraków but it didn’t happen unfortunately. I hope You don’t believe those stereotype opinions about Poland, some people still think we live in a communistic regime, wear bear skins on our backs and eat raw meat ;D. Give us a chance Hop!

  149. Woytas (Poland) November 2, 2013 at 12:10 pm #

Why did somebody delete my previous post? I just asked if it was possible for Hop to do a concert in Poland some time in future. You make great music Hop and true.

  150. Veronica November 2, 2013 at 8:49 pm #

Im going to see Jarren Benton in Seattle, Washington on November 13th iam so EXCITED and cant wait!!! Im truly Jarren Benton’s biggest fan(: I recently seen a video on youtube of a fan performing onstage with Jarren they sang “Skitzo” and I swear if i had the oppurtunity to perform with Jarren the same song i would amaze everyone that is going to be there!! Just thought id mention this before the concert and pray you guys would consider making not just my wish come true but my dream too. (: nd I had one last question, Im also one of Hopsin’s biggest fans he has been a huge positive inspiration nd influence in my life & im very thankful i had the chance to hear his music!! I wish someday i will be able to see him in concert as well. I looked at Hopsin tour dates & locations and noticed he isnt coming to Washington state at all.. I really wish he can come perform here in Washington someday. I know all your schedules are always constantly busy, but Hopsin would you consider coming to Washington for a concert anytime soon?? (: -MUCH LOVE!!!

yo hop you should make a song with Eminem!

  154. Dray Biggs November 8, 2013 at 3:37 pm #

Yo Hop just listened to “Have You Seen Me” and I wanna let you know you’re better than all the bull shit that surrounds you. Don’t let the hype of a corrupt and selfish industry influence how you’re feeling. All your fans are gonna tell you they love you but in all honesty most of them love your music. It’s some shit that the rap industry de-humanizes artists’ music so much but thats the world we live in. Don’t make music for your fans make music like “Have You Seen Me”. Use it as a tool to help figure yourself out before you try and fix other peoples’ problems. Much love man you are an inspiration to young artists such as myself. #respect

  155. Darius November 8, 2013 at 9:39 pm #

  158. Jalen Miles November 14, 2013 at 10:08 am #

Hop thanks for not selling out too many black people are quick to sellout and go mainstream and get caught up in the industry. Notice all these rappers and stars are turning out gay and being killed. When people think “illuminati” they think devil worshipers but they don’t understand that its a real problem not just within the music industry but the nation itself its a “one world government” and the media tries its best to keep black people down thats why we have the poorest neighborhoods we go around killing each other and get locked up in prison working for a nickel a day, and obamas “gay agenda” he refused to give black people reparations. But he will gladly allow gay people to get married. DO ME A FAVOR LOOK UP IRRITATED GENIE on youtube if you see the comment than hit me up if you like what you find

    • Jalen Miles November 14, 2013 at 10:28 am #

He will break down everything from the industry to where black people came from and history i noticed in an interview you said you didnt know what to believe well this is a start to your answer

  159. Brian Howard November 14, 2013 at 11:21 pm #

Hey Funk Volume group. I have a simple question and I’ll try my best to keep it short given you have a lot of fans. I was wondering is SwizZz will ever release his album? You said the only reason it’s not already dropped is because it wouldn’t make money (this was in the Lucifer Effect) I may be the only one, but I like SwizZz’s flow. I think he’s a mix between Hopsin and Dizzy. So if you could just release any information on that topic it’d be appreciated, as I don’t think I’m the only person who is wondering. Also, please check out my Instagram for graffiti and old school hip hop @thebrianhoward

Bro…I just heard your interview video where you were talking about how your pretty confused about pretty much everything. I love Jesus man and I also rap but I definitely seek after answers and have more questions than answers a lot of times (which is normal) but I feel like I can help you out brotha. I put a link to a song of mine so if you really get this you can kinda feel where I’m coming from, but hmu man seriously I love u bro. I pray for u seriously and this isn’t to team up and be the next rap crew just if you really see this I wanna just talk to you and be that iron that could possibly help sharpen u man. God bless

  172. Devin November 25, 2013 at 1:52 am #

Whats my purpose by hopsin or i should say marcus is the truth, no one opens there eyes, were paper slaves and lost in the of computers and microsoft, no one owns earth its not ours, our country lies to us everyday, and if we dont make a change in our government were fucked, hes right, “the human being is what we dont know how to be” we have lost our true value of being human, theres so much more to life than money, bitches and drugs, it fuckin tears me up on how much our fuckin government and our system is so fucked. And its got me fuckin confused, humans destroy everything in their path. “I cant stand humans i hate humans but im human” i feel that deeply in my heart and spirit!” The problem is killin my mind, god give me a sign maybe im trippin, tell me this life is worth livin” i feel that way everyday of my life. Marcus is on a higher spiritual level than majority of people” i sit alone in my room feelin so damn confused cuz i dont know who i am” thats so me and i drive my self crazy…. ” im soul searchin, its like im livin life with no purpose” i feel this all of it, i may not be famous but i face the same struggle everyday, what is my purpose and what is the meaning to life? Life has only the meaning you give to eat but what meaning should i give to it especially when the world and our government is as corrupt as it is, were all blinded, if only we would just open up our eyes and brain then we could see wtf is going on and change it. “If i have to hide the truth to live then ima die just like my idols” i cant even describe or explain or ever know where to describe or explain how that make me feel, its so true, same as all his love songs our whatever you wanna call em, i feel that shit, my girl got pregnant with my son and left me with nothing besides a broken heart and a spirit that to this today still remains toren, love is all want, and all humans search for it in some sort of way, if it wasnt for love what would be the point of living? To this day im stull searching for love or a significant other, ” unhappy here with no wife dont ask me i dont know why” straight up i feel that! I feel all his song and all his albums, “chris dolmeth” and “old friend/ ill mind of hopsin 6″ meth and drugs tare you down, my parents were tweekers and my mom wouldnt come home for days, i remember morning when i would wake up and they were gone and id have to climb on the cupboards to get my little sisters something to eat, and nights when she would leave me with my step dad and id go into the bathroom holding a necklace she gave to me and cry, i love my mom and i will always love her and she will always love me, my point is sobriety is important, macklemore said” guns thats america the drugs are what they gave to us and sex sells its self dont judge tell its you” people gotta hear and feel the deeper purpose in music, marcus/hopsins message in his music is good, music is a way to reach people and vent what ur feeling, its to send a message or release the pain, feelings and or problem that your feeling or your dealing with, you dont release it to hurt other people, you release vent and make you feel better and hope than someone can relate, its hard for me to explain but thats a summary haha, music is magic, and all the rappers outthere always talkin about drugs and bitches and money is bringing us down and makin you/us think that gangbangin and selling drugs and get money is cool and it gets you/us somewhere in life when it doesnt, We the people need to change our lives and ourselves and our government, it says in the decleration of independence that when a government deprives its people of their god giving rights that we are born with. And when a government becomes corrupt as all governments eventually do, it is the duty of the people to reastablish or over throw the government and establish it to what fits the people and their liberty and right to pursuit of happiness and their safety. Hopsins message is to inform and mine is. Rapping and rap music has been my life and without music i would be dead, and with out a piece of paper and and pen i would be dead, anyways ive typed alot and rambled for a minute. take what you want our of this long ass comment ive wrote. Peace

    • Frank December 3, 2013 at 10:40 pm #

That is a long ass comment but I 100% agree
It’s important for hip hop fans to hear this album because it stands for more than just hot bitches, money, and drugs. Right now the rap game is corrupted with shitty rappers like 2 Chainz, Wale, Rick Ross and all of YMCMB. Even well-known
rappers like Kanye, Drake and Lil Wayne can’t pull it off like they used to. Every well known rapper dropped an album this year -Eminem,Lil Wayne,Drake,Jay-Z,Kanye and the rap game is still more weak than it’s ever been. In the past 2 years, the only good rap albums that came out were good kid m.A.A.d city, The Heist, and Knock Madness. The only other album that I am somewhat looking forward to is childish
Gambino’s album and so far, I hate every song that he has released for that album. I have no faith in hip hop anymore. Knock Madness is really the only thing keeping my head up right now

Ima just start by sayin you are the best rapper in the game as of right now. you are not a 2pac or mac dre but you are different which is what I like about ur rap style. from one of ur first songs to sag my pants is when I really started liking ur rhymes. its not only the rhymes but ur flow goes perfect with every song you make. I live in the bay area, california and it would be the rawest thing ever if u came to the bay to do a show and when I hear if u are I will be the first one getting that ticket. anyways keep doin ur thang homie.

    Dear Hopsin
I’ve listened to a lot of your music. I like a lot of it. Every message I can relate to very well. Anyways the reasoning why i’m typing this comment is to ask you a quick question. If you aren’t thinking about doing anymore albums’ after Knock Madness, would you consider still being featured on other artist’s tracks? Thank you for your time From: Brandon Ayllon (i-own)

  196. isaiah green December 9, 2013 at 8:48 pm #

Thank you Marcus. You venting through your music is powerful and deep. Thank you.

  197. Jon December 11, 2013 at 12:49 pm #

What’s up with all these people leaving comments asking for Hopsin to give them his email so they can chat or to hang out with him. Are you serious? Is the music not good enough for you that you have to be in the same room as him and have his attention? He’s not going to reply back to you and he’s not going to give you his personal email so just forget about it.

One thing I would really love though, and i am probably asking for a lot..but I would love to chill with you one day. I realize you’re busy with your tour right now so it wont be anytime soon, but that would be my dream. I live in a small town in Jersey. I know it probably wont happen but if you could make that happen that’d be cool. Thanks

Dude, Hopsin, I ain’t “riding your dick” or anything, but I just saw your video “Ill Mind of Hopsin 5″, and it’s like something just CLICKED inside of me I was MIND-BLOWN that a rapper thought the same things I thought about all those pieces of shit!

Hop I noticed you liked to rap about yourself and about the people around you. But I think it’s time you expand. I can’t say I was a big fan of Knock Madness, but that’s because I thought it would be more. Like your religion. Why don’t you dedicate a song to Jesus. Or the news, why don’t you tell people your opinion on the issues in America. Then theirs your country. Maybe you should speak on why you love or hate this country. Talk bad about John Allee or Karla LaVey. You could speak about the youth. Nowadays these kids are following Miley Cyrus by partying, having mindless sex and doing whatever the heck they want. Why don’t you set them straight. Be a role model possibly. Rap about your fans or something. This is just a suggestion.

  205. Miguel December 22, 2013 at 6:53 pm #

You should come to Boston MA dude. I know plenty of people who’d buy your tickets.

  206. Ray Kennedy December 24, 2013 at 2:27 pm #

Hey hopsin. Im a solider in the army. Right now I just got stationed in Germany. If it wasn’t for your music along with a few other artists It wouldn’t have been a easy transition away from my family. I see all the tours you are doing right now and I wanted to let you know there a lot of fellow soldiers here with me that would live if you came to Germany to do a show. Closest thing we are getting to music in fucking drake in Frankfurt in February. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Would love to see FV come to Germany sometime in the future

Man i’ve just enoyed a nice spliff while listening to Still Got Love For You from ya new album. When that chorus hit me i could feel a small part of me dying inside, it’s an unbelievable feeling when you can relate to the content in music. Bitch told me not to buy tickets for your show ’cause she me one for my 20th birthday, which she didnt even showed up to. It’s about a month ago, i doubt i’ll see that ticket might aswell buy one myself before it’s sold it.

Marcus I just wanted to say that I’m just a kid and your music has inspired me, no, not just your music but who you are and were as a person inspired me to become a rapper and poet, I’ve been a musitian my whole life, music gave me a way out of all of my problems and when I found your music and started listening to you and Wu Tang,Eminem,EasyE and such I started writing raps and slam poems. When I started highschool I was really depressed and you saved my life with your music I hope you can continue to save lives with your music I ask that you never give up on music I know you have a large fanbase but if you responded to this I would be overjoyed I love you Marcus thank you for giving me life

I am not the biggest fan of rap but hopsin you are the exception in your music I find something that is rare to hear from any song produced in this era not just rap I mean every genre of music and that is genuine emotion. Each line of your songs feels like it had your heart mind and soul put into it. For example the fiends are knocking gave me the chills it was incredibly done congrats on all your success and good luck with all your projects

  215. Tyrrell January 11, 2014 at 9:39 am #

Your music is phenomenal. I’m from Canada and you aren’t very well known here yet. But I liked your music so much the first time I listened to it that I pre ordered Knock Madness and even still I listen to your music every single day. My girlfriend isn’t too fond of it but I make her listen anyways haha. You are a great role model for these misguided teens and I plan on recommending your music to everyone I know. Please do not stop making music, people like you are going to make a difference and change the world. Also if you have any radio edits. I can more than likely get a couple of your songs on our local radio station, I used to work there. Take care man, and keep producing !

It doesn’t matter what the problem is, they can all be solved by taking the biggest step into free fall.

Hi Marcus, whats up? Its nice to hear a artist be honest for once in this “New Age” rap, and its also nice to hear that you havent changed from who you are and that music hasnt made you into what the media wants you to be. Sorry if it sounds like im sucking up, its just it makes me happy to know there are still some artist who know about good music, unlike others who talk about Ice T, Ice Cube, 2 Pac, 2 Live Crew, De La Sol, Wu Tang Clan, etc… So knowing that there is gives me hope for the day that i try get serious about my music, and also makes me hopeful that I can meet you guys some day but I probably need to learn how to skateboard first, well um opps I have been rambling too much anyways good luck on your tour Hopsin and also with your break from rapping. I will always be a fan because your music has kept me up and stopped me from making so many selfish decisions. . . because it lets me know there is someone who can understand what I have been through. Anyways, good luck Marcus.

  235. Brandon February 26, 2014 at 9:52 am #

I can understand your taking a break from the music scene to do some soul searching. I actually think its a great idea rather than the alternative we see in the music industry where people get so wrapped up in that life they lose themselves in the process. you definitely have talent and I always look forward to new music but not at the cost of someone losing themselves (Mark 8:36). I wish more people did something like this so we had more music with an actual meaning to it. I recently been through it myself, I had to take a step back and I realized how far off track I had got. I never really read my b ible much until then now Im a lot closer to God than I have ever been and everything else is so much more clear. Anyways I hope you find what your looking for.

  236. JamesRoberts February 27, 2014 at 12:01 am #

I went to see him at the westcott theater in Syracuse, New York he wanted two MC’s to come to the stage my friends were lifting me up to get his attention and sure as shit him and i made direct eye contact and he called me to the stage along with a 13 year old it was my first time being on stage in two years i was in a rap group that performed at showcases but never won any of them however the five minutes of fame was a blessing that i never thought would occur because of the luck I’ve had my entire life, it made me realize that opportunities can occur at any moment and motivated me to get back into hip hop i cant thank him enough for putting on an amazing performance and providing an opportunity to share the stage with his fans so if you are thinking about going make up your damn mind and go you wont regret it!

I comment each time I especially enjoy a post on
a website or I have something to add to the discussion. It is caused by the passion displayed in the
post I browsed. And after this post Hopsin | Funk Volume.
    I was actually excited enough to post a comment ;
) I do have a couple of questions for you
if you usually do not mind. Could it be just me or does it appear like some of these remarks appear like they are left by brain dead individuals?
:-P And, if you are posting at additional places, I would like to keep up with everything new
you have to post. Could you make a list all of all
your social pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?

Hey hopsin i got one question. Do you believe in what you rap and you guys can help me with this question refer me to a song that proves he does.

    • Amy May 21, 2014 at 4:40 pm #

way too broad a question, man. narrow it down. pertaining to which belief? I would say he speaks with a conviction that leaves little room for doubt. You want one song? Please. Have you even listened to his music? You should be able to hear it for yourself, and if you can’t you’re probably just out of your depth. Nobody can help you with that.

Hop i gotta tell you that you are a saviour to me in my life right now on the fact that all of my “friends” has gotten the mindset that doing drugs and drinking is the only thing still fun to do on a weekend but i promised always to myself that i wouldnt get into any of that mess because of my mom being an alcoholic i realized quick how that affects not just that person but everyone around them and i had no positive influence pointing me in a direction worth following until i heard your music and it gave me confidence that there is someone else out there just like me and it saves me everyday. I really needed to tell you this that you are changing a life and i owe you a great thank you. Keep making music man it speaks to me and it really truly is saving my life.

  284. Amy May 21, 2014 at 4:32 pm #

Dear friend Hopsin, I love you. You wanted to touch my heart; but you grabbed it instead. I loved you from the very first time I heard Ill Mind 5, almost from the very first words. You killed it. You hit the proverbial nail with the sound of a railroad spike being driven home. Took my breath away. Hooked me like a drug. That song lives and breathes with a single, determined focus, as sinuous and focused as a hungry python broken free from confinement. With flow as smooth and as cool as silken reptile skin. Continuous, unbroken. One solid mass of potent muscle and driven intent. And God, when you let the pain out. . How do you do it, Hop? Break down with such utter strength and dignity that you never leave holes in your defense? Sometimes, you sound frustrated. I get it, I’m frustrated too. Life is frustrating. People are frustrating. Sometimes you do have to take a step back and remember that you can’t make the horse drink the water, cuz the horse just ain’t as smart as you. It doesn’t even know it’s fucking thirsty. It’s easy to get caught up trying. Oh well. It’s not your job to make them drink it, just to bring it; and you do. Not every thirsty horse can be saved. If you’re like me, you feel alone, even when surrounded by people. You are not alone. You are just one of few. The independent thinkers, the potent minds, the real and true Leaders of humanity, will always be few amongst many; and in their lives, they will often feel alone. Sometimes it gets heavy to carry the cane; but it’s better to have a cane to lean on, when you are tired, than to be the sheep who tires running, and is taken by the wolf. You have poured your soul into your music. It is an intoxicating brew. I plan to keep drinking. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself, so shamelessly. God, how I wish I could say what you say, the way you say it. You’re incredibly gifted. You are delivering messages as potent as any I have heard. World changing, life changing. Your voice penetrates the deepest places like the peal of church bells through the sleeping city streets. You have a presence that can’t be denied or ignored. The dark will scatter from you like roaches from light. God will always take care of you, for you are doing Gods work. I, at least, believe that’s true. Keep doing God’s work until he calls you home. The wretched lift up their eyes and are shaken by the bareness of your soul and its afflictions. The sorest wounds heal best when they’re exposed to the air; thank you for preaching that difficult lesson. And when the song is done. . we’re left to ponder the shadows you so briefly, yet so powerfully, banished; like a lighthouse beam through fog. Somehow, the shroud is more heavy than it was before; more uncomfortable to put back on. So some choose to cast it off and follow the light. Hope is distant, but we can see it now. . Bless you Hopsin, even more than you’ve already been blessed. Bless you in all your days, and the Lord guide you, in all your ways. Bless you for so bravely treading where the lost sheep roam. I only ache that we both exist, right here on this same crust of Earth, stretching between your feet and mine, and that we yet shall never meet, hand to hand, mind to mind, soul to soul. For that would be an honor, a true honor. If we both make it to heaven, Hop, and I have an eternity to search you out, I will find you then, just to shake your hand. Life is too short, distance is too far, humanity, too broken, to afford to hide our souls. So I love you, Hop. I really do. I just might take a bullet, for you. Not in a weird way though, so peace; if we both make it to Heaven, then, I’ll catch you when deceased. Sincerely, AmyD

Hop, you are really inspiration. I know you probably won’t see this but you, starting from a kid in Special Ed classes becoming a world famous rapper, is so inspiring to people like me in a small town with little to no chance of making it and becoming famous. 295. AmyD June 3, 2014 at 6:20 am #

Ok Marcus, I’ve evaluated more of your music and I have to admit I was disappointed. See, you got it twisted. Marcus is the real rap artist, not Hop. Hop is an idea of yours that you’ve embraced too hard. See, you wanted to be the best rapper. But in order for you to BE the best rapper. . you have to also be YOU. Also, you seem to have really believed in your heart that being the best rapper meant getting approval from the masses. So you pitted yourself against unworthy opponents and that in itself is unworthy. And why do you want the approval of people who approve of those who are unworthy? They’re clearly not worth impressing. Also, I have a lot of trouble with the statement, “I have no favorite rappers because all of you suck.” Do you really believe that? I have to believe you don’t. You’re too smart to deny some of the other skillful artists out there in your field of work. I know so many good ones. Some might be better than you. Some are in some ways, for sure. If you want their names get back to me and we’ll discuss it because if you somehow haven’t heard of these guys, you really need to. You’ve got mad skill, Marcus. That fact is undeniable. I’m not just saying that. You jumped immediately to a spot near the top of an extensive mental list I’ve compiled and some of those guys had to really prove themselves to get up there. I heard ONE of your songs and I knew you made top three before the song even finished. It blew me away. It stunned me. I don’t know if that’s ever happened before. But then I heard more. You talk about the devil a lot like it’s no big thing. But I hope you realize that if you challenge the devil he’ll send an army. No one man can stand up to an army forever so be careful and arm yourself with prayer and faith and try some modesty. You spend a lot of time insulting women and indulging in violent fantasies. I think you must know that Jesus wouldn’t approve of that kind of behavior. So there are some definite chinks in your armor, Marcus. Even I can see them and I guarantee that the devil has got a bead on you. I’ve heard it in your music. You’ve been touched by a sickness that’s bigger than you, bigger than anybody. There aren’t a lot of people like you, Marcus; so the devil’s going to want you as his trophy. My own personal theory is that you had to disguise yourself as part of the darkness in order to purge it. I just hope I’m not wrong. It might simply be that God used you, despite you. I don’t believe that. However, after listening to much of your work, I would say that the majority of it is intolerable. I’m not saying it’s not skillful. I almost don’t want to admit that even the vulgar and intolerable were still undeniably skillful but it really can’t be denied. The ones you got right, though. . were impeccable. Amazing. The delivery. The word use. The flow, the rhythm. Everything, start to end. Truly an amazing accomplishment. Your whole career was worth those few songs, believe me. I mean, they’re still reaching, Marcus. The ripple is still spreading outward and it’s going to keep spreading, even through the generations; probably even after your death. Most people never get to throw a stone that large. You threw at least five. So if it’s killing you, go ahead and quit the rap career. Start nourishing your soul. The only place happiness exists is in the soul; it can’t be found a single place else. Take up meditation, or martial arts. Personally I think you’d be a kick ass martial artists. You’ve got the energy and aggression to fuel it. You’d look bad ass doing it, too. Find a woman you can marry. Believe me, they’re out there. Actually, it’s not up to you to find her. If God sees that you’re worthy of her, he’ll send her your way. So do whatever you can to make yourself worthy. You talk about some issues in Heather Nicole; have you worked on that shit yet? Angels are delicate creatures, Hop. God won’t give one to just anybody. And then have some kids, for sure, because that brainy shit is genetic and we need more thinkers like you. Not only that but having kids is profound and life changing. Listen, I worry for you. That’s why I’m taking the time to write this. How strange is that shit? I know it’s strange, but hey, it’s the way God made me. I care about people. It’s like my own special purpose on this planet. And here’s the thing. I’ve got a whole list of musicians and groups that I love passionately. I know, I already mentioned that. The point is, I’ve never reached out to a single one of them and here’s why; I listen to their music, and it’s clear they’re doing fine. They’re doing great, in fact. Life is good. Their careers are good. They feel strong, optimistic, positive, powerful. Sometimes they get down on their luck, sure; they’re human. We all do. But even in their weakness they come strong, and so at the end of the day, I don’t worry for them. They’re not lost, and they don’t seem in danger of becoming lost. In fact they lift me, and strengthen me, through their music. It’s a beautiful thing. I started caring about you, Marcus, Hopsin, whatever you want to go by. I got lucky and heard your good stuff first. Some of that other shit would have made me write you off, completely, if it was the first I ever heard by you. But I heard the good stuff and I got hooked. So now, I just want to talk to you, Hopsin/Marcus. I want to tell you that you’ve screwed with my head a bit. I guess it’ll make me feel better if I do whatever I can to reach out to you, one human being to another. Not fan to artist, just person to person. That’s what I do. I wish I could do it in song, like you. I’ll take what I can get, though. Maybe you’ll never read this. I think it’s a distinct possibility that you don’t read through this shit and I can’t say I’d blame you. Still, though. To think I could put my opinion out there, and get it in YOUR head. Well, the thought makes me feel better and what the hell; what do I have to lose? Tell you what, though. If you are reading this, consider writing back. No strings attached. You like friends? I do too. You like talking to other human beings who actually have honest and interesting shit to say? I know I like that. I also know how hard it is to find, believe me. I’ve got some lyrics, too, and you can read them if you want. Also with no strings attached. So that’s the invitation extended. It’s all I can do. If not, then just take care, Marcus. I don’t pray like I used to but I’ll say one for you when I’m done writing this. I am honestly pulling for you. And I plan to keep introducing others to your work. The good stuff, at least. Ok Marcus/Hopsin. Peace for now. Sincerely, again, AmyD.

    Hey Hopsin,

I only just discovered your stuff a month ago and to be honest I have not listened to rap/hip hop much since I was a teenager. I felt it was lost along time ago and then I heard your song Ill Mind of Hopsin 5 and was thrown back by what I was hearing in the song. I heard some straight out stuff a Rapper who could rap and be positive in his lyrics without sounding preachy. I have missed the days where Rappers talk about the real world and using good thought provoking lyrics. I got tired of hearing about bitches, money and fancy fucking cars. I didn’t care I couldn’t get into it. I found some other songs on Youtube and fucking played them over and over and its been along time since I had done that. The last time I did was when I picked up 2pac’s Me Against the World, Nas’s Illmatic and Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers Lp and not forgetting The Tunnel Ratz Tunnel Vision Record. I am glad to place you high on the list of artist I like and look forward to hearing more track from you. You have shown me that HipHop is far from dead its just hiding in the shadows.
